Is Our World Made Out Of Only Ethnic Discrimination and Racism

In the 21st century, there is much more discrimination and racism against the teenage generation compared to previous years, in my opinion. Teens are judged by other teens because of their ethnicity and they are instantly put in focus if they are foreign or a different skin colour . They are also harshly judged because of what other people in their ethnic race do, as people may unfairly associate them with the indescribable behaviour portrayed by the media and the opinions of people with a greater amount of power.  If teens are new to the country or if they have a different accent, there are circumstances where they are made to feel like the odd ones out.
In many secondary and some primary schools many insults are made about a person’s race. Asian and South American races are insulted by being called illegals , for South Americans the very common insult is being called a drug dealer or a cleaner. These personal opinions affect many lives and it does not just exist in the younger generation, but also in the older generation. Many Asian ethnic people are called terrorist, this is because some terrorist acts are committed by people from their country – but it doesn’t mean that they are. For the African and Caribbean races or for the youths with a darker skin colour in general, the common word used to insult them is the ‘N’ word. There was an occasion where a boy only nine years of age hung himself because he was bullied for being ‘white’. The boy was called Aaron Dugmore, he lived in Birmingham and went to Erdington Hall Primary School where 75% of the pupils came from ethnic minority backgrounds. He was continuously threatened by an ‘Asian gang’ in school. He was threatened with a plastic knife, the kid that threatened him said it will be a real one next time and he will use it to kill him. There is now a law that says schools must have a minimum of 50% of pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds. Statistics have proved that there is racism and discrimination in every school.
Ethnic discrimination is a very big issue in the youth generation, as people use the looks or backgrounds of people to target and insult them. There is ethnic discrimination towards all the races, there is an insult for every race. It is a known fact that racism lives in every environment, but it exists in the youth generation the most, not only as insults but also used a reason for assault. There have been many cases where teenagers have been killed or very seriously hurt because of their skin colour or their ethnicity. A boy just 17 years of age was murdered after having racist comments hurled at him: Nilanthan Murddi was with six friends in Croydon when a cab pulled over at a traffic light, and a man hurled insults at him. His friend described what his murderer had shouted before, “Go home, you f***ing p*ki,” he said. Then it was said that the man got out of the cab and threw a punch at Nilanthan, no-one knowing that the man had a knife in his hand, slitting Nilanthan’s neck and killing him.
Personally it disgusts me that people in my generation are being killed just because they are different; racism and discrimination is having a great impact on the behavior of the teenage generation.
From past experiences, people have been racist towards me, not to harm or hurt me but as a joke, not knowing the emotional damage they caused in me. I have witnessed racism in older generations as well. I have seen people rejected from being given work placements or even entering a store because of their colour or what accent they’ve got. I believe that the media does not help in stopping racism, but enforces it to develop into it being more acceptable; in the English media over-exaggeration is very common, articles are published with non-sufficient research. What could we do to change this? Well in my opinion i believe that the media should not publish brain-washing articles that victimise races or religions without sufficient research, as well as starting youth clubs that help the youths develop the understanding of religions and races.

IGCSE writing to describe

No moon, no stars, nothing but the dim, yellow glow from the street lights above my head and the sound of the gravel crumbling under my feet to take me home. Everything was still. A feeling grew inside of me, a feeling so strong that my head felt like it was imploding, but I couldn’t explain it. I felt a presence, an unexplainable presence, a presence nothing like the one of a human being or any living thing, but a spirit, a spirit that filled the air, making it thick and hard to breathe. Everything was still, so still you could hear a pin drop from metres away, so the chances of it being a spirit dropped to a minimum. Could it be the heat playing with my head. The air was packed, it felt crowded, I felt like as if I were in a box, the more I moved the more uncomfortable it got. The humidity suffocated my lungs. The iron polluted water hung heavy on the surface of my skin. I wanted to get back home. I was oblivious to the signs given by my surroundings, so I carried on. I saw what looked like the outline of stairs, they were wet, they smelt as if a fox or a dog had urinated on them, but I carried on avoiding any sort of contact with my surroundings, I got to my floor and headed for the door.

 

I got in and as I opened the door a wave of cold hit my chest knocking me off balance… It felt good but it was unusual, it was as if something didn’t want me there. I put everything down and closed the door. I saw something move in the pitch black background, it was just shadow but a shadow with the figure of a human. The shadow seemed disturbed, it moved around aggressively, knocking things around, but it was still impossibly hard to see, I swiftly moved to the kitchen expecting to see someone. Nobody… I reluctantly glanced out of the window half expecting something bad to happen, but nothing did. The lights flickered, things moved. It wanted me gone, my parents were working so who could I tell, I tried calling them but the phone signal went. I felt trapped, boxed in, for once i realised how an animal in a zoo felt, I didn’t how to explain it but I wanted to leave. I bolted for my room, avoiding anything I hit on the way. I stumbled in and slammed the door behind me. I dropped to the floor and after that traumatising experience my head was not functioning right. I curled myself up in the corner of my room, hands over my ears, eyes on my knees, I wanted to block myself out from everything.

 

I felt as if something was looking over me. I put all my nerves aside and forced my head to raise slightly, my tear flooded eyes could just about make out the silhouette of a hunched over being, it couldn’t be described, I just froze ,I didn’t move, my muscles stiffened, I just prayed that I could end. With no-one else in the house I felt like everything was over, that this was the last of me. I lost all hope and I felt my eyes close and my mind black out. Everything was quiet, I now wished I was blind and deaf, so I could have never experienced what I had experienced on that night. All of a sudden I felt something firmly grip my shoulder, I heard my name, I broke into tears. I was getting shaken, I looked up as the tears on my face ran off and I saw the most relieving thing ever… My dad. He helped me up, I hugged him with no hesitation, I thanked him for ending all the pain and confusion. It was late, everyone was back from work and no-one knowing what had just happened.

Essay on Romeo and Juliet

William Shakespeare explores the idea of fate in his play Romeo and Juliet by making many parts of the script sound like the character is referring to god for example when Romeo says ” Should, without eyes, see pathways to his will ” this sentence is saying for god to show him to the way to Romeo’s will another part I think Shakespeare uses fate is when Romeo and Juliet see each other through the fish tank in that scene he is trying to show that it was destiny for Romeo to meet Juliet and for capulet to stop tybalt from killing Romeo.

Fate is also used when Romeo climbs over ther garden wall the guard does not take notice of Romeo, we know Romeo and Juliet’s fate from the outset we are constantly hoping that they will take a different course – perhaps that Romeo will arrive just after Juliet has woken. However, their fate is sealed and we are forced to question our own destiny and ability to make free choices. Also when Mercutio shouts “a plague on both your houses” in Act 3, Scene 1. This bloody scene in which characters are killed gives us a glimpse of what fate has ready for us. Here are some examples of the characters referring to fate:

ROMEO
In the stars shall bitterly begin his fearful date.
This is one of the many moments that it sounds like Romeo is talkin about god.

JULIET
What’s he that follows there, that would not dance?
NURSE
I know not.
JULIET
Go ask his name: if he be married.
My grave is like to be my wedding bed.
This is saying that fate has put them up together and that if she get caught she would have to marry Romeo dead.

JULIET
O think’st thou we shall ever meet again?
ROMEO
I doubt it not; and all these woes shall serve
For sweet discourses in our time to come.
JULIET
O God, I have an ill-divining soul!
Methinks I see thee, now thou art below,
As one dead in the bottom of a tomb:
Either my eyesight fails, or thou look’st pale.
ROMEO
And trust me, love, in my eye so do you:
Dry sorrow drinks our blood. Adieu, adieu!
This is showing that Romeo and Juliet are depending on fate to see if they ever see each other again.

Also shakespear tried to interpret fate in the acting like when friar John was meant deliver the letter to Romeo about Juliets fake death but when friar John got there Romeo was not there and the letter was left in the step and when the wind blew so did the letter and Romeo was told that Juliet actually died also when friar Lawrence was trying to get to Romeo to tell him that the death of Juliet was all fake and the last part that fate was used in the play was when Romeo killed himself and Juliet woke up right after him dying and she then killed herslef.

Metaphor Analysis

Your task is to identify the metaphor present in the following excerpt and then write a paragraph that explains the metaphor and its effect on the meaning of the passage it is embedded in.

 

ROMEO:

From this world-wearied flesh. Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace! and, lips, O you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!
Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavoury guide!
Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on
The dashing rocks thy sea-sick weary bark!
